Water is the most basic human need and in 2010 the UN officially declared water a human right. In an ever-growing trend of unsustainable development, water scarcity, poor water quality, and inadequate sanitation will negative affect food security, livelihood of communities, and educational opportunities. According to the UN, by 2050, at least one in four people is likely to live in a country affected by chronic reoccurring shortages of fresh water. In a sustainable urban environment, we must consider alternative food production methods, sanitation requirements, increased water consciousness, and net zero water use and recycling.
